Holistic Fire Engineering

We are focused on identifying opportunities to develop fire engineered solutions to meet our client’s operational, architectural and ROI aspirations. We have extensive experience in developing strategies for all types of buildings, infrastructure and key government assets. We believe fire engineering is about managing key stakeholders’ expectations to ensure the client’s key functional and design aspirations are met.

Holistic design - Our clients will tell you, we bring a unique approach to the table. We challenge the design team to think beyond the code and design safely, but without traditional limits. We have a proven track record of delivering holistic fire engineering early in the design, reducing plant capacity, decreasing ceiling heights and maximising returns.

Strategies like centralised fire protection systems which serve numerous buildings, developed in conjunction with a simple and considered fire matrix make the difference. Developing a simple fire matrix is key to ensuring business continuity, reducing interruptions due to spurious alarms and the associated financial impact.

CLT, Timber and Structural Fire Engineering - As our colleagues in Sustainability will tell you CLT or Glulam can be used to reduce your carbon footprint, the weight of the building and construction program.

We have practical experience in providing the necessary Performance Solutions and assessments that are required to allow exposed Timber and CLT in construction. We have developed detailed guidance on how to achieve the required fire rating, how to deal with penetrations and solutions for slab edge protection.

Our structural fire engineering capabilities enable us to understand how the structure will behave under different fire scenarios. We can then reduce the required Fire Resistance Levels (FRLs) throughout the building and remove the requirement to protect feature steel.

No More Smoke Baffles - We love designing smoke control systems for all types of buildings, tunnels and assets. Our key driver in the design is to maintain the architect’s design, provide a safe environment and reduce unnecessary design costs that others suggest.

Like our architectural friends, we don’t like smoke baffles, and we use our experience to develop bespoke designs that allow smoke baffles to be removed. We do this by reusing the mechanical fresh air and exhaust ventilation systems and meeting the intent of applicable standards and guidelines, rather than in its entirety. This provides a code-compliant, safe design without the cost of dedicated fire systems.

Maximising efficiency of commercial floor plates - We have extensive experience in the development and design of building cores and complex smoke hazard management systems. We know the cost of inefficiency in floor plate layout. We are focused on facilitating the architectural design and operational intent without sacrificing the net vs gross ratio.
