Natural Ventilation Solutions for Residential Apartments in the City of Sydney

Our team develops architecturally-integrated natural ventilation design solutions for multi-unit residential developments.

We design, model and test systems for approval using our tried, tested and peer-reviewed approach.

Due to an increase in high-density residential development within the CBD, City of Sydney Council introduced guidelines establishing requirements for alternate means of natural ventilation for facades adjacent to busy roads. In essence, where it is too noisy to rely on opening your windows for natural ventilation, a bespoke alternate solution must be adopted.

E-LAB provide an outcome-based natural ventilation design, using a single ventilation team with experience in designing acoustic ventilators for noise-affected facades. Our bespoke ventilation solutions have been approved, manufactured and tested in situ. They have been shown to achieve the required performance parameters when installed.

We understand the footprint of the standard acoustic plenums provided by the Council create a large strain on the footprint of your proposed development.  Our ventilation team have engineered natural ventilation solutions to fit within ceiling cavities of apartments, within the depth of the mullion of a curtain wall and other novel solutions within the external facade.

We engineer the ventilation solution in collaboration with the project team to ensure a reasonable footprint that won’t heavily impact the GFA or ceiling height of the apartments.

Based on our history of integrating various passive ventilation solutions and acoustic ventilator designs, E-LAB has created a process to seamlessly integrate the acoustic ventilator into the architectural intent, maintaining project outcomes envisaged by the client and satisfying the strict City of Sydney requirements,
